Summary
I spoke with Mike Smeltzer, a developer and an independent consultant based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He helps companies build their IT systems based on a Microsoft platform called DNN (DotNetNuke) - Mike works in various capacities, from development, deployment to project management and solution architecture.
During this conversation he spoke about how he transitioned from full-time employment to running his own consultancy business. The challenges he faced and how he set himself up to succeed as an independent consultant.
As he explains, the next challenge he took up himself is how to take his years of consulting experience and turn that into a product. He is now in a new transition: building premium IT products for small to medium size businesses.
